GREEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP - CREATING SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES

On 24th April 2018 an expert seminar was held on the following topic "Green Entrepreneurship - creating sustainable cities and communities". Our special guest for the event was Dr Thomas Culhane, a lecturer at Patel College of Global Sustainability at the University of South Florida in the USA.

We discussed green businesses – creating sustainable cities and communities. Dr Thomas Culhane is the co-founder  of Solar CITIES Inc., a non-profit organization fostering new technologies based on renewable energy and reduction of waste. The activity of the organization includes purely academic research and passion for things innovative which proves that by using the simplest of objects and items of everyday use one can add to creating a sustainable development and protecting the environment.

We also talked about the so-called zero-waste policy and circular economy and the impact that civic society may have on promoting such ideas. – Your waste is a treasure. It really is an unbelievable source of resources and elements that build up the Earth and everything that lives on it. We should not just throw away plastic so freely – especially as we can quite easily transform it into fuel and reduce the amount of coal production – Dr Culhane said.

It turns out that self-generation of electric power does not have to be difficult.  Doctor Thomas Culhane showed us how to charge a mobile phone when boiling water or how to effectively use solar energy. We were also instructed how to build private biogas plants where one can re-use trash, mowed grass, or peels. Dr Culhane showed us a variety of his designs for tools and installations for recycling.

The expert seminar was organised by MISO in cooperation with the US Embassy in Poland and Europejska Fundacja Ekologiczna in celebration of the 2018 Earth Day and a 100 years of U.S.-Polish relations.
