Bridge of Polish-Ukrainian friendship: a petition by MISO and Warsaw Local Government Forum

Warsaw and Varsovians have dedicatedly joined the humanitarian campaign for hundreds of thousands of refugees from Ukraine who have found their way to our city. The Warsaw City Hall, district offices and units organized extensive relief efforts. Thousands of residents have volunteered, supported in-kind collections or taken in refugees under their roofs. Non-governmental organizations conduct a variety of relief activities. Schools accept, support and integrate new students from Ukraine. Companies donate in-kind and financial support. Everyone is getting involved.

If this situation was a test of humanity, it can be said that Varsovians passed it with flying colors. We can see the gratitude on the faces of all those refugees who end up in the city's accommodation points, where we are engaged in helping them.

We believe that good deeds should be praised and this social enthusiarsm of residents in favor of our brothers and sisters from Ukraine should be cherished in the urban space.

Hence, we are asking the Warsaw City authorities to name the pedestrian and bicycle bridge currently under construction on the Vistula River as the Polish-Ukrainian Friendship Bridge. We feel this would be an ideal way to highlight the positive relations between our nations, as well as to honor the incredible social actions by local residents to help Ukrainian refugees.

The petition was signed on behalf of the International Institute of Civil Society by President Mateusz Komorowski, and on behalf of the Warsaw Local Government Forum by Chairman Grzegorz Gruchalski.
