CIVIC ENGAGEMENT GAMIFICATION WORKSHOPS IN ŁÓDŹ
The event was organized for young civic leaders - including members of the Youth City Council in Łódź and the Youth Assembly of the Łódź Voivodeship. The purpose of the workshop was to develop soft and civic competencies through modern educational methods, such as improvisation, simulation games and teamwork. The meeting combined elements of learning, fun and real social challenges.
Day 1: Public speaking without stage fright
The first day was dedicated to working on the art of public speaking, communication and rhetoric. Participants took part in improvisational activities that helped break down barriers to speaking to a group, practice voice modulation, constructing arguments and responding to unpredictable situations. Instead of a classic lecture, the focus was on practice - short monologues, tasks in pairs and groups, as well as scenes with theatrical elements. Each exercise was an opportunity to experiment with one's own speaking style and build self-confidence.
Day 2: Simulation game “City Plan”
On the second day, participants faced the challenge of strategic urban development management in the scenario game “City Plan”, prepared by the Look Wider Foundation. Playing the roles of representatives of six neighborhoods and City Hall, they jointly planned the expansion of urban space, responding to the diverse needs of residents.
The gameplay was based on the mechanisms of cooperation, negotiation and resource management. After just a few rounds, participants learned that only dialogue and inter-district coordination achieve sustainable and optimal results. They created joint projects, built alliances, and sometimes had to make difficult compromises. After the game was over, it was time to take stock, exchange insights and reflect on how the gameplay experience relates to the real challenges of public life.
Gamification Civic Workshops is an innovative educational project for young people, aimed at strengthening civic and social competencies through modern, interactive methods based on gamification - that is, combining civic and social topics with elements of games and simulations. Participants, taking part in realistic scenario games, learn to make decisions, conduct dialogue, build compromises and cooperate in a group.
The workshops are organized for socially active young people - especially those involved in Youth Councils and local initiatives. The classes develop key soft competencies, such as communication, strategic thinking or conflict resolution, while strengthening the sense of agency and preparing for the real challenges of public life.
The project is implemented by the International Civil Society Institute, the Look Wider Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
