GAMIFIED CIVIC WORKSHOPS IN LUBLIN

On October 22, 2025, two meetings were held in Lublin as part of the project “Gamified Civic Workshops”, jointly organized by the International Institute of Civil Society, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and the Patrz Szerzej Foundation. The event was addressed to representatives of youth councils from the Lublin region.

The workshops were attended by members of the Youth City Council of Lublin, as well as representatives of youth councils from the Lublin Metropolitan Area, including:

  • Youth City Council of Lubartów

  • Youth Council of the Jabłonna Municipality

  • Youth Council of the Niedrzwica Duża Municipality

  • Youth Municipal Council in Kamionka

  • Youth Council of the Garbów Municipality

Participant recruitment was conducted in cooperation with the Association of the Lublin Metropolitan Area and Urban Lab Lublin, where the workshops took place.

The first part of the meeting focused on communication and public speaking. Under the guidance of trainers, participants developed soft skills, took part in improvisation games and integration exercises. The workshop provided not only an opportunity to learn effective communication but also a space for building relationships between members of different councils.

The experience was particularly valuable for members of the Youth Council of the Niedrzwica Duża Municipality, which had been established only a month earlier, for many of them, this was the first event attended as a newly formed group.

After the first workshop session, participants enjoyed refreshments and took part in a networking meeting, during which they exchanged contacts, experiences, and ideas for developing the activities of youth councils.

The second part of activities focused on gamification and learning through experience. During the simulation game “World Trade”, participants took on the roles of representatives of various countries, differing in levels of development, and made decisions concerning production, trade, and international cooperation.

The game served as a starting point for reflection on inequalities in global politics, (post)colonial processes, and the rules governing the global economy. Participants actively engaged in both the gameplay and the concluding discussion, analyzing their strategies and the lessons learned from the experience.
