CATALONIA ET AL., OR, POLITICAL MOBILISATION OF DEPENDENT NATIONS IN EUROPE

On 12th December 2017 the 7th meeting of the Civil Society Debate Club took place entitled Catalunya et al. – political mobilization of dependent nations in Europe, moderated by Prof. Wawrzyniec Konarski (AFiB Vistula in Warsaw), with the participation of the following Special Guests: dr Katarzyna Kacprzak (AFiB Vistula in Warsaw), Mr Paweł Witecki (Chancellery of the Polish Sejm), dr Szymon Bachrynowski (PWSZ in Kalisz) and dr Marko Babić (University of Warsaw). The meeting was co-organized by the International Institute of the Civil Society and Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Poland and formed a natural platform for discussing the issue of national identity, its sources and perspectives for development.

We also talked about:

stimulating local communities in terms of their social engagement;
revitalization of Welsh as a language, growing role of Catalan and Basque languages;
meaning of Brexit;
Kosovo’s independence and accession of Serbia to the EU;
impact of religion on nationalism;
revitalization of the Lega Nord (the North League) in Italy, separatist movements in Friesland;
Russia’s attempts at increasing its influence on the Balkans.
