MISO Author Meeting with Tomasz Awłasewicz

On 14 May 2026, the International Institute for Civil Society hosted another event in its “MISO Author Meetings” series. The guest of the meeting was editor and journalist Tomasz Awłasewicz, an author of books devoted to the activities of intelligence and security services and matters related to national security.

The event focused primarily on the author’s latest book, Łowczynie szpiegów (The Spy Hunters), while the discussion also covered his book Niewidzialni (The Invisible) as well as the author’s broader professional experience and work related to counterintelligence and the functioning of intelligence and security services.

The meeting was particularly special because several individuals featured in Tomasz Awłasewicz’s books were among the participants. This allowed the discussion to go beyond the literary narrative and offered an insight into the realities of operational work and contemporary threats to national security from the perspective of people directly involved in counterintelligence activities.

The discussion covered, among other topics, the activities of foreign intelligence services, counterintelligence methods, contemporary hybrid threats, and the role of civil society in strengthening the state’s resilience to disinformation and intelligence activities. Participants also had an opportunity to learn about the background to the creation of the author’s books and the challenges involved in covering matters related to national security and intelligence and security services.

The meeting brought together people interested in non-fiction, national security, and the functioning of the state in the areas of information protection and countering intelligence threats. The event was interactive and concluded with a Q&A session and conversations with the author in an informal, intimate atmosphere.

At the end of the meeting, participants had an opportunity to receive copies of the author’s books with personalised dedications and to have a brief conversation with the event’s guests.
