MISO BREAKFAST WITH ZUS PRESIDENT ZBIGNIEW DERDZIUK

On April 8, 2025, another “MISO Breakfast” was held at the headquarters of the International Institute of Civil Society, with Mr. Zbigniew Derdziuk, President of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), as special guest.

The event was attended by representatives of public administration, non-governmental organizations, the business and academic communities, as well as members of the MISO community. The meeting was opened and chaired by Mr. Mateusz Komorowski, President of MISO, who in his speech stressed the importance of intersectoral dialogue in building coherent and long-term solutions in the sphere of social policy.

During the discussion, the ZUS President touched on a wide range of topics related to the functioning of the Polish pension system. He pointed out the need for its further modernization, adaptation to dynamic demographic, social and economic changes, as well as the need for greater flexibility and long-term thinking in shaping social policy. He also pointed to inspiration from solutions used in other countries.

The topic of pension capitals - their construction, multiplication and the responsibility that rests on both public institutions and citizens themselves was particularly interesting for the participants. President Derdziuk stressed the importance of transparent management of public funds and the role of economic education in shaping informed civic attitudes. He also drew attention to the need to build and consolidate public trust in state institutions.

The meeting was interactive - the participants actively joined the discussion, asking questions such as the role of investment funds in the pension system, possible changes in tax policy, and mechanisms to increase the financial security of citizens. The lively exchange of views showed how complex and multidimensional the social security system is, and how important it is to constantly adapt it to changing conditions.

The event concluded with an open debate, which raised questions about the individual influence of citizens on the formation of pension policy and ways to increase social activism in this area. The president of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) stressed that the future of the social security system depends on the involvement and cooperation of all parties - public institutions, civil society organizations and citizens themselves.
