Death of Prof. Aleksander ŁUCZAK, member of the MISO Program Council

It is with deep regret and great sadness that we announce the death of Prof. Aleksander ŁUCZAK, Member of the MISO Program Council.

He served on the Polish Sejm’s Committees on Education, Science and Youth, Foreign Affairs, Constitutional Accountability, and also worked at the National Assembly Constitutional Committee. From 1998 to 2001 he was a member of the delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

He graduated from the University of Warsaw with a degree in history and continued his research and pedagogical activities at this university. From 1977 he was affiliated with the Institute of Political Sciences at the University of Warsaw. From 1983 to 1986, he served as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science at the University of Warsaw. During 1988-1990, he was Deputy Minister of Education and participated in the Round Table talks. In 1992, he headed the Office of the Council of Ministers, and served as Deputy Prime Minister from 1993 to 1996. He was Minister of National Education (1993-1995) and Chairman of the State Committee for Scientific Research (1995-1997). From 2001 to 2006, he served on the National Broadcasting Council.

He was awarded, among others, the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for his outstanding contribution to Poland's political transformation and the shaping of democratic principles of the rule of law.
