“Artists of Art and Space” - Inaugural Meeting

On February 23, 2022, the office of the International Institute of Civil Society hosted a meeting as part of the “Artists of Art and Space” series, organized by MISO and 101 Project Contemporary Art Gallery and Auction House.

During the inaugural meeting of “Artists of Art and Space” with special guests: Maria Kiesner and Michał Wietrow, we discussed, among others, about the behind the scenes creation of their works, cooperation with architects, as well as a difficult professional and socio-economic situation of female artists on the Polish market. The meeting, moderated by Paulina Świerczynska-Brzezińska (Artistic Director of 101 Project), was attended by representatives of Warsaw architecture studios.

The artists gave their opinions on the creation of customized works for their clients, and talked about the pros and cons of this kind of cooperation. The discussion centered around the openness of Polish clients to art in their homes. The architects stressed that the budget for art was often limited compared to other expenses when designing a space. However, it was noted that more and more companies while establishing their offices asked architects to incorporate works of selected artists into the design. It is also important to note that a growing number of clients are building their own art collecions.

The series “Artists of Art and Space” is intended as a platform for meetings and exchange of ideas between artists and interior designers - a place for free, substantive discussion and presentation, and exchange of experiences and views. The initiative of MISO and 101 Project enables two communities to get to know each other more closely: art and architecture.
