"The Round Table of Poland – a view after 25 years" - debate in the Presidential Palace


On the 6th of February 2014, the Chairman of the Foundation, Mateusz Komorowski, participated in the debate "The Round Table of Poland – a view after 25 years". The debate had been organised as part of a larger cycle Ideas of the New Century by the President of Poland Mr Bronisław Komorowski in the Presidential Palace. There was indeed reason to celebrate due to the 25th anniversary of the original Round Table talks (6th February).

The discussion was held at the original historic table, with the following guest speakers: Prof. Andrzej Paczkowski & Prof. Antoni Dudek and the representatives of the new generation: dr Karolina Wigura (of Kultura Liberalna), dr Maciej Gdula (of Krytyka Polityczna), dr Michał Łuczewski (of 44/ Czterdzieści i cztery), as well as young leaders of the new generation of politicians representing various groups and interests. The meeting was opened by the Chief of Staff Mr. Jacek Michałowski, and the debate itself led by Mr Michał Szułdrzyński (of Rzeczpospolita).

The Round Table was an extremely important stage on the way to freedom and sovereignty, but the process of winning back freedom had actually begun with the elections on 4th June 1989 – President Bronisław Komorowski stated during the debate.
