5TH INTERNATIONAL ASIAN CONGRESS

On May 9-11, 2018, the 5th International Asian Congress in Toruń was held under the headline title: "Direction: Asia. Variety. Otherness. Dialogue". It is one of the largest scientific events in Europe that is devoted to broadly understood Asian issues. The event was attended by over 500 people, including - as the Guest of Honor - the president of MISO Mateusz Komorowski.

The Congress is organized by the Asia-Pacific Society and the Political System Department of the Polish Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in cooperation with the Marshal's Office of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, the City of Toruń Office and the Business Support Center in Toruń.

This year, the organizers placed a special emphasis on the business aspect of the event. The lively and interdisciplinary scientific sessions were accompanied by business panels and a number of side events: Asian film shows, exhibitions, book promotions and culinary presentations.

Every year, hundreds of scientists, researchers, experts and entrepreneurs dealing with Asian issues and Poland's relations with the countries of this continent in various levels of cooperation participate in the Congress. It is a unique meeting, during which there are specialists from many fields, whose common feature is the involvement in the Euro-Asian cooperation.

It is also an important international event, as the Congress is regularly attended by guests from China, Russia, India, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Japan, Pakistan, Vietnam, Turkey, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia, as well as researchers from the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belarus and Ukraine.

For years, Congress has been an important event in the diplomatic calendar - the meeting is attended by ambassadors of China, Russia, India, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, the Philippines and Japan or their representatives.
